ROBBMC MINI STARTERS FOR CLASSIC FORD 8 AND 6 CYLINDER APPLICATIONS
Finding the correct mini starter for your classic Ford can be challenging. Even some longtime Ford fanatics don't know for sure which mini starter to purchase for every Ford application. It's not surprising when one considers all the variables. The correct starter for a particular application can depend on the engine type, engine year, ring gear tooth count, year and type of transmission, ring gear offset, starter bolt pattern, starter register diameter, gear tooth pitch, etc, etc. And things get even more complicated if an engine or transmission swap has been made.
RobbMc now offers four different mini starters for Ford applications. These four starters cover 99% of all Ford V8 and Inline 6 applications from the mid 1950's to the early 1990's. Even a few V6 applications are covered. The trick, however, is giving the customer enough information to order the correct starter for his or her application.
To that end, we have added the following information to each Ford starter page on the RobbMc website:
- Detailed application listings: These listings assume your vehicle uses (or could use) the original starter.
- Bolt pattern: At the bottom of each page, details about the bolt pattern (number of mounting bolts, through holes or threaded holes, etc) are listed.
- Register diameter: This is the diameter of the hole in the block plate that locates the starter at the correct distance from the center of the crank shaft.
- Ring gear offset: This is the distance the ring gear is from the starter mounting surface. The larger the ring gear offset, the more the pinion gear must stick out of the starter.
- Lester interchange numbers: Lester numbers are "universal" part numbers starter repair shops use to identify starters. All Lester numbers covered by each RobbMc starter are listed at the bottom of each page.
