Product News Fuel PumpsAll RobbMc fuel pumps now feature billet, anodized aluminum valve bodies. These new valve bodies are 50% lighter, offer 10% more flow under pressure, and have larger 1/2" NPT inlet and outlet ports (even the 550HP versions). All pumps now feature bottom outlet ports for easier fuel line routing (this was an extra cost option on earlier pumps). Two flats are now machined on the sides of the valve bodies for additional clearance. The new valve bodies eliminate one gasket, eliminating a potential leak source. The valve bodies can still be rotated to any position without taking the pump apart, but it is even easier now because the screws which must be loosened to rotate the valve body are now located on the bottom of the pump (where they are easier to access when the pump is bolted to the engine). The cost of the optional "vapor return" (which reduces the chance of vapor lock on a hot day when you are stuck in traffic) has been reduced from $25 to $15. Pumps for small block Ford, big block Ford and several other applications are now available by special order (sorry, no BBC). Contact us for more info. Fuel Tank Sending Units We've added many new applications for our 1/2" sending units. These include early Ford Mustang, Falcon, Comet, Fairlane, Torino, Montego, and Cougar. For GM cars, we've added '62-'67 Chevy II/Nova, '68-'74 Corvette, '78-'88 G-body and '73-'77 A-body. We've also added our first application for Mopars; 1963-'76 A-body. Check our website. If you don't find an application for your car, contact us. We may be able to make one via special order. Mini Starters We've changed the "necks" on our starters from billet aluminum to yellow, zinc plated steel and added a knurl to the face that rides against the aluminum casting. The steel teeth of the knurl dig into the aluminum and prevent the solenoid from rotating out of position even when the starter is used on hard to start, high compression engines. We've also redesigned the pinion gear so that it no longer uses a spiral locking ring to hold the gear in place. We've brought back the starter for the SBF with 3 or 4 speed manual transmission, as well as the starter for the 429/460 Ford. We also now offer a special order starter for GM LS series engines which will fit nearly all applications including the LS1 powered GTO. Thermostat Housings Due to popular demand, we've brought back the swivel housings for Oldsmobile and AMC V8 engines. Only now, the neck and the flange are both made from billet aluminum (the earlier version used a cast aluminum neck) and the housings are now available polished or with a tumbled finish. Tech Tips Fuel PumpsWhen using the "Vapor Return" option with the RobbMc 550HP pumps, it is normal for the fuel pressure gauge to bounce around at low rpm due to the pulses created by the eccentric on the camshaft. This can make it difficult to determine the exact fuel pressure at idle. If this is a concern, place an adjustable valve in the line leading to the pressure gauge. Then adjust the valve until it is nearly closed. This will eliminate or greatly reduce the bounce in the gauge. A thin layer of moly grease or cam lube on the pump arm will help reduce wear on both the arm and the fuel pump eccentric during the break-in period. When installing an 1100HP pump, be sure to back the pressure adjustment screw out until at least 1/2" of threads are showing. This not only makes installing the pump easier, but reduces the chance of damaging the pump during installation. Mini Starters When installing a permanent magnet starter (including a RobbMc), DO NOT use a short jumper wire between the small and large terminals on the starter solenoid. This is a common trick when using a remote starter solenoid (relay). While it will work for most starters, it will destroy a permanent magnet starter. Offset Dowel Pins When using RobbMc adjustable offset dowel pins to align a stock Mopar SB V8 aluminum bellhousing, you may find that the dowel pins are too long due to the blind holes in the stock bellhousing. Simply cut about 3/8" off the end of the dowel and remove the burrs with a file. Fuel Pressure Regulators RobbMc regulators are rebuildable. If you have a regulator that needs rebuilt, you can purchase a rebuild kit from us for about $12, or you can send it to us for rebuilding and we will charge you only for parts and shipping. Or, if you are really in a hurry, the parts needed to repair or rebuild a RobbMc regulator are off-the-shelf and easy to find. The o-ring on the plunger is a standard size and available at most hardware, hydraulics or auto parts stores. The sealing washer (often referred to as a "Stat-O-Seal") is available from most hydraulic stores or online at places like www.mcmaster.com. The diaphragm is the same shape and size as the diaphragm used in a 30cc Holley carb accelerator pump. To use an accelerator pump diaphragm in a RobbMc regulator, simply remove the Holley metal plates by grinding or drilling the head off the rivet. –Robb |
